On Wednesday, February 28, 2024 shortly after noon the Kauai Fire Department received a call reporting that hikers had fallen from the Kalalau Trail, which is along Kauai’s Nāpali Coastline. Rescuers abort the Air 1 helicopter spotted one of the hikers shortly after 1:00pm about 200 feet below the trail.

They rescued and airlifted a male hiker with apparent head and body injuries and a female hiker with no injuries. A third hiker was was also spotted and rescued with apparent head injuries. The injured hikers were taken to Wilcox Medical Center.

The injured hikers were reportedly visiting from Georgia and were ages 73 and 41.

The Kalalau Trail is listed in many places as one of the most dangerous hikes in America. On January 15th of this year a hiker died after falling from the trail while hiking to visit Hanakapi’ai Falls.

If you plan on visiting the trail, please be prepared for the many dangers of the trail including the steep cliffs and often fast moving streams which have claimed lives over the years.
